It’s been so long since I’ve decorated for seasonal changes. I didn’t have the heart for it when I was overseas living in places that never felt like home.

But now that I’m back in the Bayou State, the itch to create handcrafts has stirred in me once again.

This is what I’ve created to add summer cheer to my back door – a USA-inspired grapevine wreath. I had paints leftover from other projects, so the total cost was $1.99 for the wreath – best to use what you already have on hand!

Here’s how I did it if you’d like to make one for your home.

Supplies Needed:

• newspaper for lining your surface
• 1 grapevine wreath
• 2 disposable shallow dishes (or dishes used exclusively for painting)
• white paint – about a quart (I used latex.)
• 1 narrow craft paintbrush
• red and blue acrylic art paints
• anything else you’d like to glue onto it
• craft glue

Line your flat surface with newspaper. Pour the white paint into a shallow disposable dish. Submerse the wreath into the paint, covering all nooks on both sides. Let drain and dry on a plastic disposable plate.

Paint the cross vines red. Rinse your paintbrush and paint blue one section of the wreath between the cross vines.

You can add a little something extra, too. I had this whimsical Uncle Sam lying around, so I glued him to the bottom, but you could use silk flowers, wooden stars, glitter, etc. Be creative!
