To welcome spring, Louisiana adorns herself ostentatiously like a true Southern Belle. She dresses up in azaleas in a variety of hues and shows off her beauteous self proudly, shouting to the world in her coquettish Southern drawl, “Look, y’all! Here Ah ay-yum! See how much Ah love y’all?”

So creatures of all types shake off winter (mild though it may be), and say hello to spring and the azaleas that pop up everywhere.

My favorite variety of our spring flora is the George Taber – the light pink flower with one dark pink petal. One grew in MawMaw’s front yard, and seeing them takes me back to a happy place in my childhood.

Other varieties grow wild and in gardens all over the state for a few a few glorious weeks.

Take a peek into the world of spring Louisiana style.
