Norm and I took advantage of the long weekend to take a hike to the cities of Kortrijk and Waregem, Belgium. They have the most awesome trees.

We spent a day in Kortrijk. This tree welcomed us to the city.

The church steeple keeps vigil over Kortrijk and can be seen from almost any vantage point in the city.

The following day we drove to Waregem, the city where the Flanders Field American Cemetery is located. We wanted to pay our respects to fallen Americans who gave their lives to liberate Europe. Our flag was enveloped lovingly by trees.

The fallen are now the brethren of the trees and earth,

and they deserve nothing less.

The sky came down to kiss the trees,

where our flag was suspended within the loving embrace of their branches.
