Our furniture and household effects are still somewhere between here and there. We have a card table and chairs that Auntie gave us and a cast-off mattress and box spring on the floor in our bedroom.
Our austere living conditions did nothing to dampen our spirits, however, on the eve of the new year.
Jillian brought all of her cookware and we spent the afternoon making our family’s traditional New Year’s feast: candied ham, black-eyed peas, smothered cabbage, mirliton dressing, and satsuma custard pie.
We feasted until dark, then Norm lit up the bayou with a host of fireworks. We danced around in the yard like a bunch of fools with our giant sparklers. I was sparkling on the inside, too.
There is no place I’d rather be.

Happy New Year, My Friends
May you find many sparkles in 2013.
I am sparkling just thinking about your inner and outer fireworks, Stacy. Glad you’re back close to your Jillian once again. Who cares about the furniture?
Right you are! (Though the furniture has officially arrived.) ❤
I’ve somehow been missing your posts in the WordPress ‘reader’. I’ll catch up! Happy New Year! Glad you made it home. 🙂
Thanks, Amy – happy new year to you, too! ❤
Happy new year, Stacy!
Sounds like a perfect way to ring it in.
And how, Guap! ❤
How wonderful to start the New Year with the love of family and a new home to fill with all that love! Your dinner sounds wonderful – mmmm! Satsuma pie! I love your round photos, too! Oh, you are going to have so much fun finding just the right treasures to fill you new home! I can’t wait to see!
Thank you for being such a good friend, Stacy Lyn. xx
One of the miracles of 2012 for me was meeting you, Karen. ❤
The old saying, “Home is where the heart is” popped into my mind as I read the story of your New Year’s celebrations Stacy. An empty home, furniture wise, yet so full of love. 2013 will be a magical year for you, I just know it! 🙂
Your positive thoughts are much appreciated, Joanne. My New Year’s resolution: light and airy thoughts! ❤
