It is unusual for snow and ice to settle in Louisiana, but that is just what happened this past January. The power was down for days, but have no fear, Gentle Reader. Being trapped in my house with wood heat and natural light is more of a luxury than a burden – and I had plenty of yarn, too.
What had begun as Christmas presents for my son-in-law and granddaughter was not finished until Old Man Winter had his say. He forced me to stay still long enough to finish in January what I had started in December. As both father and daughter were sorted into the House of Gryffindor, it should come as no surprise that their scarves were maroon and gold. I knitted a first-year scarf for Granddaughter and a third-year scarf for Son-in-Law. Mind you, if you read the books, the distinction in stripes is not evident, but they are clearly marked in the movies.

Pattern First Year: Knit in the round (to avoid the purl side showing). 15 rows of color A. 15 rows of color B. Knit to desired length. Add fringe and a Gryffindor patch.
Pattern Third Year: Knit in the round. *20 rows color A. 4 rows color B. 4 rows color A. 4 rows color B. Repeat *pattern to desired length. Add fringe and a Gryffindor patch.
I used Knit Picks 100% Peruvian wool yarn (3-4 skeins each color for each scarf), size 7 circular needles, and a Gryffindor patch (purchased online).
Now, go knit, then go nerd out on Harry Potter games. Ciao! Stacy
