Just in time for Easter, I thought I would share this easy Easter treat, sooo delicious – if you like sweets, which I do. I don’t have a sweet tooth. My head contains a whole mouth full of sweet teeth.
You will need a candy mold pan. Hint: If you don’t have one, use a mini-muffin pan. It won’t have the decorative impressions, but you can still coat the Oreos with the candy melts in whatever colors you have.
You will also need a pastry bag (1 for each color) with a round icing tip, about a #5. Hint: If you don’t have pastry bags and icing tips, use a plastic bag and cut one of the corners off just enough that the candy squeezes out in a narrow stream.
Yield: 8 cookies (per bag of candy melts)
- 1 box Oreo cookies,
- 1 bag Wilton candy melts in each color you plan to use
Hint: If you don’t want to buy a bunch of different colors, buy a bag of white melts and color them yourself.
For one pan of cookies, microwave about 1/2 the bag of melts in each of the two colors. (Adjust according to how many colors you will use.) It takes about 1 1/2 minutes to melt half a bag of candy.Fill the pastry bags with the melted candy, and gently squeeze into the candy molds. For these, I filled the impression with one color, then added the contrasting color. Fill the molds about 2/3 full.Gently press an Oreo into each mold.Pop them into the freezer for 10 minutes to harden – and presto! Candy-coated Oreos in pretty pastels for Easter baskets. This could be easily adapted to fit any holiday with a different candy mold and different candy melt colors. And don’t leave them in a hot car…the candy will melt! (So sorry Ethan and Avery! But they still tasted good, right?)
