Like the current of the Mighty Mississippi,
Can never be stolen.
They just keep on rolling,
Even when you say nothing.
Once uttered, once written –
Can be purloined.
But thoughts keep rolling along,
Refuse to be forgotten.
Even as they drift in pain,
Never tire of living.
Even as they fight the tide,
Inch closer to dying.
Bow your head and say a prayer
‘Cause thoughts just keep on rolling,
And like the Mighty Mississippi
Will be here evermore.
Keep me here on the Mississippi
Where she’ll cradle my thoughts
Till the day comes to die
And cross over the River Jordan.

Beautiful pictures! The Mississippi is an awesome river.
Thanks for visiting, Sheryl. The Mississippi is one of my favorite places. ❤
What an amazing waterway… Such history. A beautiful tribute!
It’s so much bigger than people may think, too, if they’ve never seen it. ❤
That’s what I’ve HEARD. I’ve seen it, but only from afar. I’d love to see it as you have….
Beautiful photos! Thanks, Stacy! I’ve been intrigued by the Mississippi since I read Mark Twain and learned ‘Old Man River’ as a child. ~ Linne
I love Mark Twain’s depiction of my river. 🙂
so musical and true, Stacy. I had to read the comments to see if they were words you wrote, or words to a famous song. You may have a new career! Your thoughts stirred my heart.
Oh, thanks, Kathy, for the encouragement. I never really think of my poetry as inspirational…..just thoughts put down on paper, or rather, in cyberspace. ❤
OK, I came looking! Where’s the purse story? 🙂
Haha. Patience, my friend. I haven’t posted it yet….I have to fish out the photos from somewhere. Hint: it has to do with Katrina. ❤
Great poem with visual photos for better understanding. Like the phrase: they’re a comfort ‘most of the time’ in one of your comments. That too I know from the river Meuse (coming from France into The Netherlands) as she can be lovely and so cruel… Many floods and lives lost.
Hugs to you and happy weekend.
Oh, Mariette – I’ve been to the Meuse in France – in Verdun (?), I believe. I loved it – made me feel so at home. ❤
I adore that river walk. Terrific poem, Stacy.
Thanks, Red. I’m not sure that I qualify as a “good” poet, but I appreciate the sentiment. ❤
Great photo’s and words. 🙂
How very kind of you to say so, Jori. Thank you! ❤
So true, our thoughts never leave us, “And like the Mighty Mississippi Will be here evermore”….
They’re a comfort (most of the time). ❤
Lovely tribute to thoughts and the mighty Mississippi! Love the photos of the trees and the bridge. xx
I will always be home when near the Mississippi. ❤
