September 2013 – Port Orchard, Washington
We (Stacy Lyn’s Traveling Socks) are going to let y’all in on a little secret. Stacy Lyn watches Hallmark movies. All of them. We believe this penchant had its inception during her childhood in the sad little city of New Orleans – when she used to read to escape urban life. She read voraciously, but only stories with happy things about people who lived in the country. People like Laura Ingalls and Anne Shirley. Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm and Tom Sawyer. This is why she became a writer, too – her love of happy endings, even if she herself does not believe in them.
So, when Stacy Lyn packed us for a trip to the Puget Sound, she could not pass up the opportunity to visit tiny little Port Orchard – the seaside village that is the inspiration for the series Cedar Cove.
Here she could believe in that elusive happy ending.
What girl wouldn’t take that leap when surrounded by her knight; her dear friends; and the water of the Puget Sound, ebbing and flowing harmoniously regardless of humankind?
Well, if either you or Christine are in Washington State and you don’t let me know so I can visit, I will not have a happy ending! Beautiful views of my beautiful state. I love Hallmark movies, too. They are filled with common human decency, love and forgiveness. I beg to differ, Stacy, I think you are getting your happy ending right now. Hugs xoxo
Thank you for that, Karen. You always have the right words. And I will tell you – I so wanted to visit you, but we weren’t able to stay as long as we had originally planned! ❤
I think this is the first time I’ve ever heard New Orleans referred to as a sad little city.
Cedar Cove does look beautiful though!
Really, Guap? I guess that is just my impression of her – always sad. Yes, I understand tourists have the impression that it’s party all the time, but the reality for the impoverished masses is quite different, sad to say. The sadness of my city mirrored the sadness of my childhood. ❤
Stacy, the world is badly in need of more happy endings! I like “Happy, no ending” because things do just continue on, don’t they? I’d love to visit Port Orchard. Maybe on my next trip home to the Pacific Northwest, whenever that will happen.
Thank you for your very generous offer in your blog comment – so kind of you. My email is c.laennec@btinternet.com if you want to be in touch further.
You cannot pass up a chance to visit Port Orchard when you’re in Seattle, Christine. It’s positively charming.
I’ll email you! ❤
Stacy Lynn, I would give ANYTHING to be able to watch all the Hallmark movies. It’s the WORST thing about not having a TV, and our local *sniff* video store doesn’t have them and *sniff* haven’t figured out how to get them. You are so lucky! As for your Traveling Socks, Hello! Thank you for sharing the pics of your trip. Very cool!
I bet you could stream them from Netflix. I don’t know how you are able to survive!<3
Oh *sob* don’t get me going about Netflix. For many reasons we can’t get it now. Someday over the rainbow…
Now that is just crazy talk, Kathy! Maybe it’s for the best. I waste far too much time in front of the boob tube. Though mine no longer even has a tube. ❤
Dearest Stacy,
Well, you look quite happy smiling here with your socks tucked inside your shoes and your knight taking this picture! Lovely Port Orchard photos, love the lower one on the right very much.
Hugs and happy Weekend to you!
Mariette
I was in heaven, Mariette!
