Though most of our acreage was cleared when we bought our cabin almost two years ago (I can’t believe it’s been that long!), I really wanted more trees. I didn’t want so much open space. The idea of moving to the country was trees, woods, forest – a relief from the longing.
And flowers, too. One can never have too many flowers.
So Norm and I let about two acres go – gave it back to Mother Nature, so to speak, and said to her, “Hey, do with it as you wish!”
I was hoping she’d want to sow some blackberries, which grow wild all over the bayou if you just leave them alone.
I was hoping she’d dot the landscape with black-eyed Susans in the summertime, too.
And most of all, I was hoping she’d offer more trees – whatever kind she saw fit. I’m not picky. I’m an equal-opportunity-tree-hugger.
Lo, and behold, Mother Nature delivered all that I had hoped for, and more.
I always longed for a pine tree, and Mother Nature has provided one for me….it’s right on top of a retaining wall though, so we may just have to extend the wall to allow the roots some more room to grow. 🙂
Just wonderful! Nature always provides, if you just let her be. 🙂 She’s always so lovely in that state, too….. (As long as you’ve cleared a nice place to sit, hahaha!).
True – a nice place to sit (without snakes!). xo
Mother Nature must have heard your heart’s longing, that’s for sure.
She’s a good listener. (I could learn a lesson or two from her.) xo
Dearest Stacy,
Well, we fought the battle with Mother Nature on our 3 acres, to get rid of the many mean thorns from briar weeds and other thorns. It is a constant struggle for having the upper hand. But we love to be able to walk our trail and have some more aristocratic trees among the wild ones. As long as we can…
Hugs to you and happy weekend.
Mariette
Of course, of course – I’ve tried to do some of my own shaping, too, but the object on the acres we’ve left alone is privacy, shade, and more blackberries! xo
For those blackberries I do envy you! Enjoy your summer’s bounty xoxo
That’s a great post. Mother Nature is very wise, and very gifted at arranging flowers and other plants!
That she is, Christine – such a loyal friend if you leave her alone. xo
Of course she did. You can always count on Mother Nature, as long as we don’t get in her way.
How right you are, Bonnie. Best to respect her authority! xo
What a great post! Now you have me crave blackberries… I’ll have to wait till August. That’s when they come out in France… Mother nature always wins in the end! We have to give her some space like you did though…
Lucky you – blackberries have already come and gone for us (and those blackberries growing by the house only produced one little berry this year). xo
Glad Mother Nature had your back!
Yes, and glad to see that you’re back, too, Guap! xo
No, not back. Just reading every so often.
Well, you are missed, that’s for sure. xo
Why thank you!
